Clothesline

The Clothesline is a free clothing ministry operated by Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation. It is a volunteer-run program that accepts gently used adult and children’s clothing, shoes, and other items and offers them free of charge in a store-like facility where “shoppers” can browse and take what they need.

Clothesline’s dedicated volunteers meet twice per week to sort and display donations. Volunteers pass on unsalable items to various other nonprofit organizations in the community, ensuring no donated item goes to waste. The Clothesline also provides a package of toiletry items to first-time shoppers who are accompanied by a social worker/case manager.

Shopping

The store is open for shopping every Friday from 9:30-11am, except holidays. Social and caseworkers may also contact Clothesline to arrange private weekday visits.

Donating

Donations may be dropped off in plastic garbage bags and placed into one of the donation bins inside the back main entrance of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. No hangers or boxes, please!

Please read the donation guidelines PDF here for complete instructions.

History

The Clothesline is well-regarded in and around the Perrysburg community for its unique boutique atmosphere and quality apparel. The program was established by members of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in 2009.

It began in a small room, expanded into the parking lot, and eventually found a permanent home inside a wing of the church. Over the subsequent years, a dedicated group of 20-30 passionate volunteers have worked tirelessly to sort, display, and distribute clothing donations to those in need. Today, Clothesline provides nearly 2,000 customers each year with clothing, shoes, and personal items.

New Beginnings

Through generous donations from the community, Timothy’s Perrysburg Foundation is excited to embark on a new beginning for Clothesline in 2025. The program will leave its wing at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and move operations to the former church rectory across the parking lot, which will be expanded and renovated to provide additional space for donations and shopping as well as to make it more accessible. Clothesline’s volunteers are excited to redesign the store and give customers a refreshed and uplifting experience. Check back to this page for further information and news!

Mitten Ministry

The Mitten Ministry is a project under the umbrella of Clothesline that consists of a group of volunteers who make fleece-lined woolen mittens from donated knitted sweaters. Mitten recipients have included The Cocoon, Cherry Street Mission, and refugees in Ukraine. The Mitten Ministry graciously accepts sweaters that are at least 60% wool. The wool is then felted by washing in hot water, cut into mittens, and lined with fleece to be extra warm. The sweaters need not be perfect, as any imperfections can be worked around when cutting the wool for mittens. Donations may be made in the marked Clothesline donation bin right inside the St. Timothy’s church back main entrance.

A volunteer for this mission does not need sewing skills, as other tasks include deconstructing the sweaters once felted and cutting the wool and fleece with patterns in both men’s and women’s sizes for sewing. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Joan Morton at 419-874- 5704 Ext. 103.
